MERCER COUNTY

Field day features new soybeans

Soybean producers will be able to view, compare and learn about the new varieties of soybeans on the market starting at 2 p.m. Thursday. The Mercer County Soybean Field Day will be at the Struthers Farm located on Junction Road, just south of the railroad underpass on U.S. Route 62, Mercer.

Representatives from Dekalb, Pioneer, Novartis, Agri Pro and other companies will be on hand to describe their soybean varieties and benefits of each for producers. All of the soybean varieties will be the new proprietary Roundup varieties. Eight different seed companies have soybeans entered and available for inspection by producers.

Soybeans are becoming one of the major production crops for northwestern Pennsylvania. So, it is important that producers gain an understanding of the different characteristics of the new varieties on the market.

Please note the starting time for this event is one hour later than previously advertised.

Pesticide credits will be available.
