Grace Jeanette Barkley
Portersville church's oldest member was a homemaker

Grace Jeanette Barkley, Passavant Convalescent Home, Zelienople, formerly of Slippery Rock, died at 4:35 a.m. Friday (9-29-00) in the home after an extended illness. She was 95.

Mrs. Barkley was born August 7, 1905, in Muddy Creek Township, Butler County, to Hayes Frederick and Eleanor "Nellie" Gallagher Bauder.

A homemaker, she was a member of the Keenagers of Portersville.

Mrs. Barkley was the oldest living member of the Portersville Presbyterian Church and a member of the J.B. Cheeseman Sunday School Class.

Her husband, Ernest Russell Barkley, whom she married March 28, 1923, died Jan. 5, 1971.

Surviving are: two sisters, Eleanor Reaugh, Portersville; and Elsie Burr, Evans City; a brother, Roy Bauder, Portersville; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Barkley Wible; three sisters, Thelma Hall, Stella Kline and Lena Smith; and two brothers, Dean and Don Bauder.

Mrs. Ernest (Grace), 95, Zelienople, formerly of Slippery Rock.

Edith V. Chadderton

Retired school cafeteria worker lived in Hermitage

Edith V. Chadderton, 4230 Morefield Road, Hermitage, died at 12:20 p.m. Friday (9-29-00) in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. She was 79.

Mrs. Chadderton was born March 19, 1921, in Sharon to John and Elsie Serringer Webb.

A 1939 graduate of Sharon High School, she retired in 1994 after 36 years as a cafeteria worker at Artman Elementary School, Hermitage School District.

Mrs. Chadderton was a member of New Virginia United Methodist Church, Hermitage.

Her husband, Ivan G. Chadderton, whom she married March 23, 1945, died Nov. 5, 1994.

Surviving are: two sons, Gary W. Chadderton, Mercer; and Ronald A. Chadderton, Broomall, Pa.; and four grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Webb.

Elizabeth 'Betty' Horne

Longtime waitress, retiree of The Phoenix, was BHS grad

Elizabeth "Betty" Horne, 6055 Orangeville Kinsman Road, Kinsman, died at 1 p.m. Thursday (9-28-00) in UPMC Horizon, Greenville. She was 64.

Mrs. Horne was born Nov. 5, 1935, in Erie to James and Anna Mae O'Hara Spohn.

A 1954 graduate of Brookfield High School, she retired as a waitress from The Phoenix restaurant, Sharon.

Mrs. Horne had been a waitress at several area restaurants for the past 47 years.

She was a member of the Church of Christ, Hermitage.

Her husband, David "Ben" Horne, whom she married May 24, 1983, died July 17, 1995.

Surviving are: a daughter, Robin Wilks, Kinsman; a son, Gene McMath, Sharon; three sisters, Jean Linonis, Hermitage; Dorothy Gentile, Sharon; and Imogene Rice, Kinsman; four brothers, Phillip O'Hara, Warren; James Gribble, Norfolk, Va.; Robert Spohn, Transfer; and Edward Spohn, Gainesville, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Dolores "Cookie" Rice, Joanne Waters and Celia Loop.
