Mayor Robert T. Price received a letter from Cardell Cooper of the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development saying the city is being awarded $844,000 for 2001. The city had expected $813,000.
Joseph Caminiti, director of community development, said he expected to be notified by Jan. 1 if HUD approved the city’s plans for next year’s entitlement, and he thought the money would arrive in February or March.
Price said he learned Thursday the city would get additional money.
In a letter to Price, Cooper commended the efforts of the city to spend block grants in a timely manner. He wrote that HUD has had a difficult time with communities not spending their money within the designated time frame.
Sharon plans to spend its 2001 entitlement to improve public facilities and services, code enforcement and housing rehabilitation in low-to-moderate-income areas.
