MERCER COUNTY

New director named at local Red Cross

Mercer County Chapter of the American Red Cross recently named its new executive director.

Rebecca Payne, Springboro, Pa., will assume the post on Monday.

"I’m looking forward to working with the people of Mercer County to build professional relationships with the Red Cross board, staff and the heart of our organization, our volunteers," she said in a news release.

Mrs. Payne began her Red Cross career in 1995 as Greater Erie Chapter’s administrative assistant.

She was promoted in 1997 to operations manager, where she was responsible for budgeting, strategic planning, human resources and the chapter’s day-to-day operations.

Mrs. Payne has experience with the Foundation for Free Enterprise Education, a statewide program for high school juniors and seniors. She managed its cash flow, provided management support and acted as a liaison to the student recruiter.

Mrs. Payne earned an associate’s degree in management from Erie Business Center. She is working on a bachelor’s degree in business administration at Pennsylvania State University.

Mrs. Payne is a member of Red Cross Disaster Services Human Resources system and is a certified cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first-aid instructor.

"We are extremely pleased to appoint Rebecca to this position," said John Inman of Grove City College. He is chairman of the local chapter’s board of directors. "She brings with her a wealth of Red Cross experience and ability to our chapter."

A reception for Mrs. Payne is set for 4 to 6 p.m. Nov. 14 in the Founders Board Room of Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce on Chestnut Street in Sharon.
