Tony C's back at the mic after 4 1/2 years

Longtime local disc jockey Tony Costanza, better known as "Tony C," is back on the air after 4 1/2 years.

Costanza is hosting the call-in talk show "Everyday People" with Ray Faber from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays on 1470 WPAO-AM, based in Brookfield. The Sharon announcer hosted the morning show on 790 WPIC-AM, Hermitage, for years until he was moved off the air in March 1996. He was given a sales job but quit about two months later.

Save for a three-week stint with another station, Costanza has been off the air ever since.

Faber formerly worked at WPIC as a fill-in announcer and board operator. Costanza said he wasn't looking to get back on radio but admitted, "My first love is being on the air."

He made the connection with WPAO through Buzz Siriani, who has been doing high school football games on the station. "I didn't knock on their door but it evolved into a good fit," he said.

His hiring falls in line with the station's move to a Shenango Valley-oriented station, which is looking to move its offices to Sharon, he said.

"What feels good to me is there are a lot of old 'Morning Session' regulars who have found us," Costanza said.

WPAO has a Christian music format and is owned by Beacon Communications.
