FARRELL

Accused beater pleads to lesser charge

A Farrell man accused of beating a woman who ran for help clad only in a T-shirt, pleaded guilty to a summary charge of harassment after the couple reconciled.

James Gregory, 38, of 635 Darr Ave., entered his plea Wednesday at a preliminary hearing before District Justice Henry J. Russo, Hermitage. Charges of two counts each of simple assault, burglary and criminal trespass were withdrawn.

Gregory was sentenced to pay costs and 90 days’ local probation.

Gregory was arrested at 5 a.m. Nov. 2 at home. Police said he forced his way into his home through a back window. He choked the woman, who also lives there, and shoved her head against walls and the floor, police said.

When the woman tried to call 911, Gregory pulled the telephone cord out of the wall, police said.

She broke free and ran to a neighbor’s house to call for help. He caught her outside, choked her and slammed her head against a car hood, police said, adding she was not seriously hurt.

The woman ran into the house, locked the door and called 911. Gregory kicked down the door and pulled another phone cord from the wall, police said.
