NEW WILMINGTON

Patrolman charged with burglary

A New Wilmington policeman was charged with burglarizing the borough building after a monthlong investigation by state police in Butler, police said.

Timothy A. Chambers, 43, of New Wilmington was arraigned Wednesday on nine counts of burglary, theft by unlawful taking or disposition and receiving stolen property. He is free after posting $2,500 bond, police said.

The police investigation revealed Chambers was burglarizing the borough office at 134 High St. and stealing small amounts of cash while on duty at various times between Oct. 4 and Sunday. He was arrested without incident Wednesday at the New Castle state police barracks, police said.

Chambers had been on the force for 13 years. The force is made up of four full-time patrolmen and one part-time patrolman, said borough Police Chief Dick Hanna.
