Borough budget holds the line on taxes

Clark borough council placed its $180,390 2001 preliminary budget on display last week. The public has 30 days to examine the spending plan.

Once again, taxes will remain steady at 29 mills, with three mills going to the fire department, said borough secretary Phyllis Parshall.

A mill is $1 for every $1,000 of assessed property value; assessments are one-third of a property’s 1970 market value.

At 29 mills, a property owner with a home assessed at $10,000 would owe $290 in property taxes to the borough. Each mill represents $1,875 to the borough.

The plan is available for viewing at the borough building on Winner Road. Council expects to approve the final budget at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7. The meeting was moved from Dec. 5 in order to display the budget for a full 30 days.
