50 local students in Challenge 24 finals

Fifty area students have been selected to compete in the finals of the Challenge 24 math competition Jan. 27 at Youngstown State University.

Qualifying for the YSU program at The Herald/YSU Challenge 24 competition at Case Avenue Elementary School in Sharon Oct. 28 were the following:

St. Joseph’s, Sharon: fourth grade -- Katie Ritchey, Samantha Gibson and Emily Frederich; fifth grade -- Margy Ritchey, Lee Michael Shimshock and Sal Messina; sixth grade -- Samantha Weisen, Dan McElvay and John Davidson; seventh and eighth grades -- Colleen Kerins, Laura Davidson and Jopie Rossi.

Reynolds: fourth grade -- Whitney Soldo and Chelsea D’Urso; fifth-grade -- Nicole Ballish; sixth grade -- Johnathan Berberick and Rachel Hoffman; seventh and eighth grades -- Sam Resinger and Casey Howsare.

Case Avenue, Sharon: fourth grade -- Melinda Galloway, Meggie Perrine, Matthew Mihalina, Nicoel Pope, Brooke Gladysz and Jeffrey Campbell; fifth grade -- Jessica McSherry, Christine Kucster, Arica Christman, Brittany Wallace and William Palmer; sixth grade -- Faith King, Brittany Csatlos, Katie Kelly, Justin Rosales, Toni Hrycyk and Erika Hricik; seventh and eighth grades -- John Outrakis and Jacob Trojak.

Notre Dame, Hermitage: fourth grade -- Britany Charsar; fifth grade -- Paula DeJulia; sixth grade -- Christina Grasso.

South Pymatuning Township: fifth grade -- Megan Leo.

Seventh Street, Sharpsville: fifth grade -- Kristen Prezioso.

Sharpsville Middle: sixth grade -- Molly Anglin; seventh and eighth grades -- Ben Koches and Joe Bonanni.

Farrell: seventh and eighth grades -- Preston Bridges, Brittany Claiborne, Domonique Milhouse and RJ Sivalich.

The Herald-sponsored competition was coordinated by its Newspaper In Education program, directed by Mary Beth LoScalzo.

"It was another successful Challenge 24 program in October. We wish our students all the best at YSU in January," she said.
