HERMITAGE

Folk group’s CD sales benefit center

Church of Notre Dame Folk Group is sharing its talents to benefit the local community by donating to charity the profits of its latest compact disc to Prince of Peace Center, Farrell.

"This is the second time we’ve done this," said Gretchen Wagner, who has directed the Hermitage church group for more than 20 years.

"Because Prince of Peace helps the whole area, and it’s nondenominational, we felt it was appropriate," said Mrs. Wagner. "Monsignor (John B. Hagerty, the church’s pastor) has been great about giving money up front to cover our expenses."

Mrs. Wagner said the adult group makes certain to first pay back the church for its support before donating the remaining funds to Prince of Peace.

"We also do concerts in other area churches," she said. "We take a free will offering during the concerts and donate it to Prince of Peace."

The latest CD, "Sing! A Jubilee of Praise," was released earlier this month. "The first one, ‘For Glory of God,’ sold about 1,000 copies," said Mrs. Wagner. "We re-ordered the original, and have it available, too. We ordered several hundred of both CDs for sale."

The vocal group gave $5,000 to Prince of Peace from the sale of the first CD. The money is donated in the memory of Sister Bonita, long-time director of the Prince of Peace.

Both compact discs were recorded in Mud Hut Studio in Sharon. "Bill Dodd, their engineer, has been wonderful to us," said Mrs. Wagner.

Cost for the compact disc is $15, or $10 for a cassette tape. They are available from group members, or in Hermitage Bible & Gift, 2015 E. State St..
