GREENVILLE

New head named; 2 quit water board

Greenville Municipal Authority named a new water superintendent and accepted the resignations of two board members Tuesday.

The authority named 20-year employee Bill Brady as superintendent at an initial salary of $45,000. After a six-month probation, the salary will increase to $46,000 on July 1.

Brady, who was in charge of water distribution, has performed satisfactorily as interim superintendent, said Mario Marini, authority vice chairman.

Brady succeeds Robert Munch, who resigned as superintendent in October.

Remarks by two Greenville council members caused the water authority board chairman John Kokoski to resign.

The authority board accepted the resignations of Kokoski and member Norbert Mechenbier at its Tuesday meeting.

Kokoski said Wednesday he resigned because of "ignorant and insensitive remarks by a couple of council members that took away a lot of hard work by a lot of people."

A week ago, Councilman Michael A. D'Alfonso described water authority operations as a fiasco, referring to billing problems and service. Councilman Bryan Langietti cited the need for new faces on the water authority board.

The two councilmen were urging the approval of Jan Hurlbert to be on the water authority board. Council by a 4-3 vote reappointed Kokoski over Ms. Hurlbert.

Mechenbier couldn't be reached for comment.
