Another man linked to a drug trafficking ring that allegedly sold more than $4 million dollars of cocaine in the past four years in western Pennsylvania turned himself in to authorities.
Eric J. Powell, 27, Saegertown, called the Pennsylvania Attorney General's office Wednesday and surrendered to authorities at 1:20 p.m. at District Justice Ruth M. French's Mercer court, according to French's office.
Powell, who was charged with possession with intent to deliver cocaine, delivery of cocaine and criminal conspiracy, was released on $25,000 bail.
Vernon F. Scott, 37, of 284 Stambaugh Ave., Sharon, the alleged leader of the drug ring, is still at large.
Authorities are following several leads to locate him, according to Mercer County District Attorney James Epstein.
"We've been given at least three locations, one in this area, and two that are in cities that are a substantial distance from here," Epstein said of Scott's whereabouts.
All of those linked to the drug ring were charged by State Attorney General Mike Fisher, who issued a news release on the case before most
suspects were arrested. Deputy Attorney General Linda Barr, who is prosecuting the case, said the news release had "no impact" on Scott eluding authorities.
Scott and his cohorts allegedly distributed more than 20 kilos of cocaine -- about 40 pounds -- according to a news release from the attorney general. Scott allegedly sold cocaine to Richard McConnell of West Salem Township, owner of Queen of Hearts dance club, who then allegedly sold it from the club and supplied dancers there with the drug.
McConnell, who was arraigned and jailed Thursday, was released on $75,000 bail Friday.
Of the seven men arraigned, only Mark H. Peelman, 29, of Meadville, and James P. White, 44, formerly of Hermitage, remain in custody. White's preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 4 at French's office. Hearings for the other men are still being set up.
