FARRELL

Justice withdraws shooting charges

A Farrell man charged with shooting at a woman got an early birthday present Wednesday when the charges were withdrawn.

The prosecution left open the possibility that charges could be refiled.

Charges of two counts of aggravated assault and one count of making terroristic threats against Michael Crawford, who turns 19 today, of 819 Fruit Ave., were withdrawn at his preliminary hearing before District Justice Henry J. Russo, Hermitage.

Assistant District Attorney William Moder told Russo the woman is claiming heart problems and is too ill to testify.

Russo agreed that the charges could be withdrawn without prejudice, meaning they could be refiled. Moder said the case will be reviewed and the woman's health considered in determining whether to refile.

A preliminary hearing last week was continued because of the woman's health.

Crawford has been in Mercer County Jail since being arrested Dec. 18.

"Assuming nothing else is holding, we'll release him," Russo said.

Crawford was accused of shooting at the woman Dec. 17 in his home. He had argued with two women and threatened to kill one of them, police said.
