HERMITAGE
Commissioners OK 2001 budget
Hermitage commissioners approved a $8,652,863 spending plan Wednesday that is supported by the same property tax rate -- 15 mills -- that has been levied for a decade.
A mill is $1 for every $1,000 of assessed property value; assessments are one-third of a property's 1970 market value. At 15 mills, the owner of a home assessed at $20,000 would have a tax bill of $300.
Wednesday, the 2001 budget passed unanimously and with little discussion. The budget was the same one presented earlier this month.
The city plans to spend more money on personnel, general operating expenses and insurance. The city's comprehensive Highmark insurance plan is expected to cost more than $64,366 more than it did this year, but next month the city will meet to discuss options for 2002.
The city plans to transfer more money from the general fund than it did this year for loan payments on capital projects including ones at the city building, garage and a fire station. The city also will spend about $90,000 more for street work.
The city plans to bring in about $300,000 more in wage-tax revenues, and more money through the new Adelphia cable television franchise agreement.
