HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP

Driver fair after skull fractured in crash

A Hempfield Township man's skull and neck were fractured this morning after the sport utility vehicle he was driving flipped off a snow-covered Williamson Road in the township, police said.

Rory E. McFadden, 22, of 205 Lynwood Drive, was reported this morning in fair condition at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was transported there from UPMC Horizon, Greenville.

At 2:05 a.m., McFadden lost control of the SUV as it went down a hill, police said; it slid and spun, went off the road, flipped onto its roof and dropped 15 feet, police said.

Ambulance personnel and Hempfield Township volunteer firefighters freed McFadden, who was pinned in the wreckage, police said.

Police said McFadden also suffered severe cuts on his face, but he was moving as rescue crews freed him.
