HERMITAGE, SHARPSVILLE

Two boards approve adding security systems to schools

Two local school boards approved security measures Monday.

Sharpsville school directors approved a $4,040 quote from Aries Resources, West Middlesex, to provide a security system for the middle school, and a $4,194 quote from Aries for a security system for the high school.

Sharpsville Superintendent Dr. Derry Stufft said the details of the security system are very simple. All school doors will be locked and all visitors will have to be "buzzed in." Secretaries will monitor all visitors via video camera and television monitor, and everyone who enters the school will be taped.

The Hermitage school board unanimously approved two change orders totaling $60,000 to upgrade the high school’s sound and security systems. Both change orders are part of the school’s $24 million building project.

A $45,000 order will add digital capabilities to the 49-camera closed-circuit television security system being installed. A $15,000 order will upgrade the auditorium’s standard sound system. The money will buy a professional-quality mixing board, surround sound speakers and more speakers.

Representatives from ASSC Inc., the primary contractor on the sound and security systems, and Progressive Systems, the digital company installing the security system, reviewed the change orders last week at a board work session.
