BROOKFIELD

October trial scheduled for rape case

The trial for a Brookfield man accused of sexually assaulting a woman beginning when she was 12-years-old is set for Oct. 29 in the Trumbull County Courthouse.

Robert Gibson, 61, of North Albright McKay Road, was charged by Brookfield police Feb. 12 with two counts of sexual battery after a 19-year old woman with whom he was acquainted claimed he sexually assaulted her for years.

Gibson was arraigned March 22 on multiple rape, sexual battery and corruption of a minor charges before Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge John M. Stuard.

His indictment states that the alleged incidents occurred between October 1994 and June 2000.

During Gibson's first pretrial hearing on April 5, he pleaded not guilty. Video and audio tapes were also entered into evidence then.

"At this point there has been no resolution so we are taking the trial date," said Trumbull County Assistant Prosecutor Sarah Kovoor. "I'm confident about the case."

Gibson's attorney, Dan Keating of Warren, had not filed any more motion hearings as of today.

Gibson was a maintenance supervisor with the Brookfield Local School District before retiring in August 1991.
