2 churches get new pastors

Father Kresinski to leave Sacred Heart

Catholic Diocese of Erie Bishop Donald W. Trautman has announced pastoral assignments affecting churches in Sharon and West Middlesex.

The Rev. Daniel J. Kresinski, 56, the pastor since 1995 of Church of the Sacred Heart in Sharon, will become pastor of St. Raphael Church, Eldred, Pa., and its missions of St. Mary Church in Sartwell, Pa., and St. Theresa Church in Shinglehouse, Pa.

He will be replaced at Sacred Heart by the Rev. Stanley Swacha, 48, who has been pastor since 1989 of St. Bernard Church, Falls Creek, Pa.

The Rev. Howard King has been named pastor of Church of the Good Shepherd, West Middlesex. The 64-year-old, a former member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon, succeeds Monsignor Joseph Riccardo, who, it was announced previously, will become pastor of Immaculate Conception Church, Clarion.

All appointments will begin Aug. 1.

Father Kresinski was ordained May 7, 1970. He studied for the priesthood at Christ the King Seminary, St. Bonaventure, N.Y.; and at Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

He was parochial administrator from 1993 through 1995 at St. Anthony Church, Sharon. He directed the diocese's Spanish Apostolate from 1984 through 1993, and served as pastor from 1991 through 1993 of St. Stephen of Hungary, parochial administrator from 1990 through 1993 of Immaculate Conception Church; and pastor from 1987 through 1990 of St. Casimir Church, all Erie.

Father Kresinski was part of the team ministry from 1984 to 1985 at St. Patrick Church, Erie. From 1979 through 1984, he was released by the Diocese of Erie to the St. James the Apostle Society for missionary work in Lima, Peru.

He taught from 1977 through 1979 at Central Christian High School, Bradford. From 1970 through 1977, he taught at Cathedral Preparatory School, Erie.

Father Swach was ordained May 4, 1979, and studied for the priesthood at St. Mary's Seminary, Emmitsburg, Md. He was parochial vicar from 1982 to 1989 at St. Michael's Church, Greenville; in 1982 at Our Lady Queen of the Americas, Conneaut Lake; and from 1979 through 1982 at St. Leo Magnus Church, Ridgway. He has served on the diocese's Marriage Tribunal and been involved with the Boy Scouts and Knights of Columbus.

Father King was ordained May 23, 1963. He studied for the priesthood at Christ the King Seminary. He has been pastor since 1992 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Bradford; and since 1978 at Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church, Lewis Run.

He was parochial vicar from 1977 through 1978 at St. Callistus Church, Kane.

Father King taught from 1964 through 1977 at Central Catholic High School, Bradford. During that time, he was weekend assistant at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church, Bradford.

He studied during the summers from 1970 through 1975 at Mathematics Institute at the University of Vermont, Burlington. He was parochial vicar from 1963 through 1964 at St. Titus Church and St. Joseph Academy, both Titusville.

Father King is a Knight of Columbus and previously served the diocese on the Priests' Senate, now the Presbyteral Council.
