GREENVILLE

Hempfield man charged with rape

A 27-year-old Hempfield Township man raped a woman after breaking into her apartment late Saturday, Greenville-West Salem Township police said today.

William Waldo, 1 Waugh Ave., crawled through an open window at about 11:30 p.m. to get into the South Second Street apartment in Greenville, police said.

After the alleged rape, the 26-year-old woman was treated at UPMC Horizon, Greenville, police said.

Waldo, who knew the woman, was arrested the next morning, police said.

Waldo was arraigned by District Justice William L. Fagley, Greenville, on charges of rape, burglary, indecent assault and simple assault and taken to Mercer County Jail after failing to post $15,000 bond.

Waldo was being held at the jail this morning, a jail spokesperson said.
