Children's Theatre schedule is set
Playhouse Square Center, Cleveland, is selling subscriptions to two series of stage productions for children.
The 2001-02 Children's Theatre Series, designed for children ages 3 to 8, will open with Theatreworks USA performing the bilingual musical "Ferdinand the Bull" at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 6 at the Palace Theatre.
Also scheduled:
"Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great," 10:30 a.m. Nov. 3 in the Allen Theatre. The musical by ArtsPower is based on the Judy Blume book.
"Fred Garbo Inflatable Theatre Company," 10:30 a.m. Dec. 1 at the Palace. Gigantic inflatable props are used in dancing, juggling, tumbling and foolishness.
"Maurice Sendak's Little Bear" by Tanglewood Family Entertainment, 10:30 a.m. Jan. 26 in the Allen.
"The Three Sillies" by Dallas Children's Theater on Tour, 10:30 a.m. March 2 in the Palace. The musical is based on the Steven Kellogg's illustrations.
"Highlights for Children," 10:30 a.m. April 13 in the Allen. ArtsPower performs a musical based on the magazine.
The 2001-02 Ameritech Discovery Theatre Series is aimed at children aged 8 to 12. Shows, all in the Ohio Theatre, are:
"The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," based on the C.S. Lewis book and staged by Theatreworks USA, 2 p.m. Oct. 6 and 3 p.m. Oct. 7.
"The Mystery of King Tut" by Theatreworks USA, 2 p.m. Nov. 10 and 3 p.m. Nov. 11.
"Harlem" by the Kennedy Center Imagination Celebration on Tour, 2 p.m. Feb. 23 and 3 p.m. Feb. 24. The show about the Harlem Renaissance will feature a storyteller, vocalist and jazz quartet.
"Time After Time" by Green Thumb Theatre, 2 p.m. April 20 and 3 p.m. April 21. An 11-year-old girl discovers a time machine.
For each series, tickets also can be bought for a black-light, puppet telling of Eric Carle's "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and the "The Very Quiet Cricket" at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Jan. 12 in the Ohio Theatre, and a musical version of "Reading Rainbow" at 10:30 a.m. May 4 in the Allen.
