Kids playing with lighter blamed for trailer fire

PYMATUNING TOWNSHIP -- Children playing with a cigarette lighter set a bedroom in a Pymatuning Township mobile home on fire at about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, authorities said.

Quick action by volunteer firefighters confined the fire to the bedroom, said Transfer Fire Chief James Biggart. Most of the home of Laura Flynn, Lot 10 in Sunnyview Mobile Home Park, was spared from fire damage, he said.

Ms. Flynn's 4-year-old son and a neighbor's boy were playing with the cigarette lighter when they set curtains on fire, Biggart said. The boy told his mother that something was wrong in the bedroom, the fire chief said. After alerting 911, the residents with their pets got out unharmed, he said.

Assisted by Clark and South Pymatuning Township volunteers, firefighters had the blaze out in 20 minutes, Biggart said.
