Sharon native retired from Air Force, was homemaker

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -- Terri L. Opsitnick, 188870 Madrone St., Hesperia, Calif., formerly of the She-nango Valley, died unexpectedly of asthma at 10 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, in San Bernardino. She was 43.

Mrs. Opsitnick was born Dec. 31, 1957, in Sharon to Ronald P. and Teresa Mihalson Blackburn.

A high school graduate, she was a homemaker and re-tired from the U.S. Air Force.

Mrs. Opsitnick was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are: a daughter, Teresa Opsitnick; and two sons, Brandon Ibara and Phillip Torstenson, all at home; her father, West Middlesex; maternal grandpar-ents Andrew and Mary Mihalson, Sharon; and two broth-ers, Ronald P. Blackburn Jr., Hawaii; and Gary L. Blackburn, Pennsylvania.

She was preceded in death by her mother; and her pa-ternal grandparents.

Mary L. Pannun-zio

Hubbard homemaker belonged to St. Patrick’s

Mary L. Pannunzio, 363 Stewart Ave., Hubbard, died Monday morning, Nov. 5, 2001, in Forum Health -- Northside Medical Center, Youngstown. She was 90.

Mrs. Pannunzio was born April 15, 1911, in Youngstown, a daughter of Andrew and Carmel Lippiello Colucci.

She was a lifelong area resident.

A homemaker, Mrs. Pannunzio was a member of St. Pat-rick’s Church in Hubbard and its Altar & Rosary Soci-ety.

Mrs. Pannunzio leaves: her sons, Nicholas Pannunzio, Hubbard; and Andrew Pannunzio, Estero, Fla.; her daughters, Connie Daly, Brookfield; Betty Martin, Vi-enna; and Carmel Villano, Hubbard; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Samuel DeMarte, Struthers, Ohio; three sisters, Rose Tassile, Youngs-town; Molly Molinari, Niles, Ohio; and Margaret Pal-ermo, also Youngs-town.

Her husband, Nicholas Pannunzio, whom she married May 18, 1929, passed away on Feb. 26, 1990. Her brothers, Michael Colucci, Stephen Colucci and James DeMarte are also deceased.

Edward M. McCli-mans

‘62 JHS grad was computers manager, owned paving firm

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Edward M. McClimans, Staniak Road, Halfmoon, N.Y., formerly of Jamestown, died at 3:08 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, in St. Peter’s Hospital af-ter a very brief illness. He was 57.

Mr. McClimans was born April 8, 1944, in Jamestown, a son of the late Donald and Elsie Herrick McClimans.

Mr. McClimans was a 1962 graduate of Jamestown High School. He then joined the U.S. Navy, from which he was honorably discharged in 1965. Edward then attended ITT Technical Institute in Columbus, Ohio.

Mr. McClimans retired after more than 20 years from the Research Foundation of the State University of New York, where he was a project manager for computer services.

Following his retirement, Mr. McClimans owned and op-erated McClimans Asphalt Paving, which he ran until the onset of his illness. His wife and children will continue the operation.

Edward is survived by his wife, the former Ruth Stan-ley, to whom he was married June 29, 1986. He is also survived by: three sons, Gregory Tripp, Las Vegas; Eric M. McClimans, Mechanicville, N.Y.; and Justin Lenihan, Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; two brothers, Stanley McClimans, Kilgore, Texas; and Ronald McClimans, Jame-stown; two sisters, Barbara Randolph, Melbourne, Fla.; and Rae Marie McLaughlin, Greenville; three grandchil-dren, Ruth Victoria and Justin Michael Lenihan, Green-field Center, N.Y.; and Devon Tripp, San Antonio; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Friday (11-9-01) in Assumption St. Paul Church in Mechanicville. Burial will be in Hudson View Cemetery, Mechanicville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oncology Unit of St. Peter’s Hospital, 315 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, N.Y. 12208.


Lewis C. Kor-mos
Battle of Bulge participant retired from Westinghouse

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday for Lewis C. Kormos, 469 Methodist Road, Hempfield Town-ship. He died at 8:50 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, in St. Paul Homes, West Salem Township. He was 89.

Mr. Kormos was born March 5, 1912, in Hungary to An-thony and Margaret Angel Kormos.

A graduate of Sharon High School, he retired in 1977 after 44 years of service from the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., where he was an electrician.

Mr. Kormos was a member of St. Michael’s Church in Greenville and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post Hickory Post 6166 in Hermitage.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed gardening and hunt-ing.

An Army veteran, Mr. Kormos served in the 82nd Air-borne Division during World War II, participating in the Battle of the Bulge.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Helen A. Kosnac, whom he married May 14, 1949; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Suzanne) Radish, Greenville; two sons, Thomas J. Kor-mos and his wife, Katherine, Greenville; and John Kor-mos and his wife, Barbara, Jamestown; and three grand-children.

Mr. Kormos was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren; and two sisters, Theresa Bell and Helen Darko.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Endowment Fund of St. Michael’s Church, 85 N. High St., Green-ville 16125.

Cathy Sue Haun

‘79 Sharon High graduate was worker at Joy Cone

A funeral service will be held Friday for Cathy Sue Haun of 2811 Frampton Road, Hermitage. She passed away at 5:15 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, in the intensive care unit of UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a brief illness. She was 40.

Born May 29, 1961, in Sharon, she was a daughter of David and Mary Ann Slattery Germano.

A 1979 graduate of Sharon High School, she was em-ployed as a packer for Joy Cone Co. in Hermitage; and previously worked for Charlie’s Specialties, also Her-mitage, for about 10 years.

Cathy was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Hermitage.

She enjoyed riding her motorcycle with her husband and going to her family’s camp in Venango County. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include: her husband, Charles W. Haun, whom she married Feb. 14, 1981, at home; two daughters, Mary Frances Haun, Pittsburgh; and Nicole Marie Haun, at home; one son, Charles W. Haun III, at home; her parents, Sharon; her grandmother, Elnora Tice, Far-rell; two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Dana) States, Hermit-age; and Mrs. Tim (Lisa) Clark, Sharon; one brother, David Paul Germano, Sharon; her father-in-law, Daniel Leali, Hermitage; her brother-in-law, Danny Leali, a student at Slippery Rock University; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Fran-ces Leali; and a brother-in-law, Jerry Leali.

Charles Robert McFarland, Marco Island, Fla., and Lake Latonka, died at 12:12 p.m. Tuesday (11-6-01) in Uni-versity of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He was 75.

Howard L. Clark

‘52 Mercer grad, retired meat cutter lived in Stoneboro

Howard L. Clark, 103 Stoneboro Road, Stoneboro, died at 2:20 a.m. today, Nov. 7, 2001, in UPMC Horizon, Greenville, after an extended illness. He was 68.

Mr. Clark was born May 25, 1933, in Penn Run, Indiana County, to George B. and Wava B. Stephens Clark.

He graduated from Mercer High School in 1952 and mar-ried Ruth Alexander on Dec. 2, 1955.

He was drafted by the U.S. Army in 1952, served in the Korean conflict as a cook and was discharged in 1955 as a corporal. He entered a career as a meat cutter in 1949 at the A&P grocery store in Mercer; and worked at Seneca (Pa.) Grocery; Walt’s Golden Dawn in Mercer; and retired from McKean’s Shurfine in Sandy Lake in 1995.

He was affiliated with the Oak Grove Wesleyan Method-ist Church in Fairview Township.

The joy of his life was his wife and family and he was No. 1 to his grandchildren.

He is survived by: his wife; five sons, Richard Clark, West Middlesex; Larry Clark, Pueblo West, Colo.; Bill Clark, Stoneboro; Kenneth Clark, Clarks Mills; and Dennis Clark, Stoneboro; two brothers, David and Ed-ward Clark, both Texas; one sister, Twila Corless, Masury; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant sister, Janet Clark.

Elsie A. Broms

Formerly of Meadville, Polk retiree was born in Farrell

HOLLYWOOD, Md. -- Elsie A. Broms, 44760 Medleys Neck Road, Leonardtown, Md., formerly of North Main Street in Meadville, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, in Hollywood. She was 87.

Mrs. Broms was born March 14, 1914, in Farrell, a daughter of Gustave and Olga Hauck Schneider.

She married Willard G. Broms Jan. 9, 1937, in Wells-boro, W.Va. He preceded her in death Aug. 21, 1985.

Mrs. Broms retired as a supervisor at what is now Polk Center after 26 years of service.

She was a member of Meadville Alliance Church and a former church secretary. Mrs. Broms was also a member of the Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Em-ployees; the Meadville Young at Hearts Club; and the Methodist Quilting Club in Polk.

She volunteered to teach reading at the Crawford County READ program and volunteered to spend time with terminally ill patients at Meadville Medical Cen-ter.

Survivors include: a son, Willard L. Broms and his wife Phyllis, Leonardtown, Md.; a brother, William C. Schneider, Powell Butte, Ore.; five grandchildren, Frederick C. Broms, Edward A. Broms, Donna M. Burris, Robert A. Simons and Ronald A. Simons; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Broms was preceded in death by two brothers, Herbert and George Schneider; and two sisters, Elizabeth Downey and Milda Dawson.

Mary G. Ghizzoni Bell

Mary G. Ghizzoni Bell, Pine Township, formerly of Lib-erty Street in Grove City, died at 7:35 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, in Orchard Manor, Pine Township, follow-ing an extended illness. She was 99.

Mrs. Bell was born July 12, 1902, in Milan, Italy, to John and Anna Ghizzoni.

A homemaker, she was a member of Church of the Beloved Disciple in Grove City.

Her husband, Ross Bell, whom she married April 25, 1922, died Jan. 6, 1992.

Surviving are: two daughters, Louise Hess, Hermitage; and Edith M. Bell, Grove City; two granddaughters, Marta Hess; and Paula and her husband Clay Yeatman, all Atlanta.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Edith Ghizzoni and Josephine Sarachene.
