FARRELL

Man says he was shot in robbery

A Farrell man who stopped his car Thursday when a stranger flagged him down reported that he was shot in an attempted robbery, police said.

Wade Massey, 29, of 1036 Hamilton Ave., was shot in the left index finger, police said. He was treated at the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System, a spokeswoman said.

Massey was driving at 8:30 a.m. and stopped at Hamilton and George Street when a man on the corner flagged him down, police said.

"He saw this guy standing on the corner, 'Hey, come here,'" said Police Chief Joseph Timko. "Why he would pull over for a stranger, your guess is as good as mine."

The man demanded money and pulled a gun, police said.

The gun fired when Massey pushed it away, police said.

Massey drove to the hospital, and police were called from there, police said.

Massey could only describe the shooter as a dark-skinned black man with a short build, said police, who are attempting to assemble a photographic lineup to try to help identify a suspect.
