Greenville council on Monday will have three vacancies to fill, but the four remaining councilmen will be able to choose from at least 13 people seeking appointments.
Council will need to appoint two two-year seats to replace the late Michael A. D'Alfonso, who was killed in a football accident on Thanksgiving, and former Councilman Thomas McMurdy, who didn't run for re-election. Councilman Bryan Langietti won both a four-year seat and a two-year seat in November and chose the longer term.
The latest vacancy came Monday when Councilman Bryan Shannon resigned, leaving another two-year vacancy. Councilman Richard S. Houpt said council could fill all three vacancies Monday, or wait to see if more people apply.
Councilmen Houpt, Langietti, Pete Longiotti and David Henderson will make the appointments. Five of the 13 applicants introduced themselves at the agenda meeting Thursday. They were Debbie Groce and Pam Auchter, both former candidates for council; Walter "Chad" Sankey, who is retiring as fire chief on Feb. 15; and Robin Douglas and Bob Hereford. Also expressing interest, according to information on file at the borough building, were: Ian Scott Forbes, John Hoydak, Shawn Knauf, the Rev. James Webb, Anthony Schillaci, former council candidate James Stegkamper, and outgoing Councilmen Theodore Jones and David J. Welton.
