MERCER

2 businesses burglarized Sunday

Two Mercer businesses were burglarized Sunday and owners of both businesses are offering $500 rewards to find the people involved.

At 2:35 a.m., someone entered the Family Dollar Store at 139 N. Erie St. through the roof. Once inside, the burglar or burglars vandalized the store by spray-painting the aisles and smashing items, causing an undetermined amount of damage, police said.

Police believe the burglary is connected to a Dec. 23 break-in at the store. In that instance, someone entered the vacant building next door, broke through a wall and entered Family Dollar's office. An undetermined amount of cash was taken, police said.

Also Sunday, between 4:30 and 5:45 a.m., someone broke into the Mustang Bar at 711 Wilson Ave. through a side door, and then forced open two more doors to gain access to the bar area. An undetermined amount of money, $150 in change and bottles of liquor were taken, police said.

Police do not believe the two burglaries are connected.
