MERCER COUNTY
County officials sworn in at ceremony
County officials elected in November were sworn in Monday morning in President Judge Francis J. Fornelli's courtroom at Mercer County Courthouse.
Fornelli, who was retained for a third 10-year term with more than 85 percent of the vote, was the first official to be sworn in. Fornelli's family members stood beside him as he took the oath.
Judge Michael J. Wherry administered the oath to Fornelli, who then took a seat on the bench with Wherry and Judge Thomas R. Dobson.
The judges took turns swearing in the remaining officials.
Among them was county Controller Tom Amundsen, a newcomer to county office.
"I was honored," said Amundsen of Hermitage, whose girlfriend stood beside him as he took the oath.
"I'm excited to be here and to start working with our very confident staff (in the controller's office)," Amundsen said after his swearing in.
Amundsen, a Democrat, defeated Republican Michelle Smith in the fall election and replaces Dennis Songer, who stepped down after two terms and has taken a job at Jazwinski Financial Services Inc. in Hermitage.
Treasurer Ginny Steese Richardson, Jury Commissioners Wilda M. Boyd and Maurice P. Keaveny, District Justice Ruth M. French of Mercer, and several attorneys new to the county bar association also were sworn in.
