HERMITAGE

Teens sickened by drug they obtained in school

Three Hermitage teen-agers were treated at an area hospital after they had a negative reaction to an anti-psychotic drug they took for recreational purposes, Hermitage police said.

Police said all of the teens -- ages 14 and 15 -- got their hands on Haldol while they were in school at Hickory High.

Two of the students had a negative reaction that police described as a seizure during school Tuesday and were taken to the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System, while the third was taken to the hospital after eating the drug Sunday evening. An area pharmacist said small doses of the drug, a depressant that affects the central nervous system, can cause respiratory shutdown. Police said they intend to file charges when they track down the source of the drug.
