SHENANGO TOWNSHIP

Police probe burglaries in southern part of township

Shenango Township police are investigating a rash of Friday morning burglaries in which items as large as a drill press and as small as school books were taken.

Chief Ronald Preston said Friday afternoon he had taken eight reports and knew of one other break-in, all in the Bedford Road-Stony Hill Road area in the southern part of the township.

Preston added that some of the victims told him of two break-ins in Pulaski.

Pulaski and state police said they received no reports of break-ins Friday.

The burglaries likely occurred between shortly after midnight and 4 a.m., Preston said. The first report came in at 7:52 a.m.

Tracks in the snow showed that two to four people were involved, he said.

In what is likely to be the costliest burglary, a lock was cut to a storage shed and a chain saw, a drill press, tree stands and tools were taken.

"The only forced entry was that shed," he said.

The burglars also entered unlocked garages and vehicles and stole cellular telephones, book bags, compact discs, tools, toolboxes, a hydraulic jack, a fishing pole and other items, Preston said.
