MERCER

Vigil set to honor Vietnam vets from Mercer County

Mercer County Vietnam Veterans Association Inc. will hold a 24-hour vigil to honor prisoner-of-war and missing-in-action veterans.

The event will begin at 9 p.m. Jan. 25 on the east side of Mercer County Courthouse, next to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. It will conclude at 9 p.m. Jan. 26.

U.S. Rep. Phil English, Erie, R-21st District, and state Sen. Robert D. Robbins, Salem Township, R-50th District, will speak at a ceremony at 7 p.m. Jan. 26.

This month marks the 29th anniversary of the signing of the Paris Peace Accords, which ended American ground force involvement in Vietnam and the exchange of POWs and MIAs.

About 2,200 Americans are unaccounted for from the Vietnam War. Some were known to be alive at the time of their capture.
