Local drug danger talk set for Wednesday

Parents and guardians of Wilmington Area School District students along with community members are invited to learn about dangerous substances that are becoming popular locally.

Dangerous Substance: Parent Education and Discussion will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Wilmington Area High School auditorium. The program will be presented by Matthew Nord, a prevention specialist with Drug and Alcohol Community treatment Services, Inc., and Jill Bello, a nurse for the school district.

The information is being provided to parents and community members to help them recognize new trends among adolescent drug use. Some of the drugs that will be discussed are: DXM or Dextromethorphan, also known as Crazy 8's or Tussing; Oxycontin or Oxycodone, also known as Oxy's or OC's; MDMA or Ecstasy, also known as E, Eve, Adam, Clarity, Lover's Speed and X; and Ephedrine, also known as Herbal Ecstasy.

Also included in the panel discussion will be school administrators, guidance counselors, local police and pastors.
