More than $7 million in state money will be divvied up between Trumbull and Mahoning counties in February, and Brookfield officials want a piece of that pie.
Trustees are seeking $90,400 from state Issue 2, a fund for capital improvements, to help rehabilitate Davis Street, which houses 54 residences and three businesses, according to Jaime Fredenburg, road department supervisor.
"There's been a flooding problem for years in that area," Fredenburg said, adding that the township wants to put in storm sewers and repave the road.
The township will match the funds with $176,400.
"That may seem like a lot of money, but most of that is in-kind cost. The road crew would do most of the work. The wages are included in there, which is a big bulk of that," he said.
"We're in pretty good shape. We're high I think," said Fredenburg. Each of the 70-plus projects in Mahoning and Trumbull counties gets a rating. The township's 62 points makes the project the fifth highest in Trumbull County.
The next round of points, based on regional importance, will be given out Feb. 11 by a special committee, he said, adding that the township may not do as well in that category.
"The regional importance is limited; that happens a lot with townships. The bulk of the use comes from the residents," Fredenburg said.
He said the final decision will also come out on Feb. 11.
