Drought loss loans available, FSA says
Merle A. Helbig, farm loan officer, Farm Service Agency, announced emergency loans for farming purposes are available due to losses caused by the 2001 drought.
To be eligible farmers must:
Be an established family farm operator who was operating and managing a farm at the time of the disaster.
Be a citizen of the United States or legal resident alien.
Have the necessary ability, training or experience and show repayment ability for the loan.
Provide evidence of a qualifying production loss of at least 30 percent on any single crop or livestock enterprise which is a basic part of the farming operation.
Be unable to obtain suitable credit elsewhere.
Provide adequate security for the loan.
