MERCER COUNTY AREA

Weekend wrecks tied to snowy conditions

State police reported six weather-related crashes on Saturday, but no one suffered serious injuries.

Three people were treated for minor injuries after a pickup truck hit a trailer being towed by another pickup truck at 4:10 p.m. on state Route 173 at the eastbound off-ramp of Interstate 80 in Wolf Creek Township, police said.

Police said the pickup towing the trailer, driven by William P. Klein, 44, of Sandy Lake, was leaving the highway and failed to stop at the Route 173 stop sign because of slippery conditions.

Klien's trailer was hit by a pickup traveling along Route 173 driven by Thomas P. Howard, 36, of Grove City.

Passengers Amy J., 36, Emily J., 10, and Thomas P. Howard, 11, all of Grove City, were taken to United Community Hospital, Pine Township. Klein's two passengers were not injured, police said. Jackson Center volunteer firefighters assisted at the scene.

Also Saturday, Nancy Flannery, of 447 E. Venango St., Mercer, suffered minor injuries but refused treatment at the scene after the driver of the pickup truck she was a passenger in lost control and rolled the pickup at 8:50 a.m. on a snow-covered Interstate 80 in Lackawannock Township, police said.

No one was injured when a minivan spun out of control and hit a tree at 11:10 a.m. on state Route 208 about 30 feet west of Indian Pine Path in Pine Township.

Stephanie Gail Blough, 19, of Greenville, suffered minor injuries after she lost control of her car on a curve and hit a tree at 2:07 p.m. on state Route 58 in Delaware Township, police said.

No one was injured after a pickup truck went out of control and rolled onto its roof at 3:30 p.m. on state Route 58 near Grove City in Pine Township, police said.

At 4:45 p.m., a Jeep slid off the road and struck a tree on state Route 258 in Springfield Township, police said. No one was hurt.
