GREENVILLE

Water main break damages brick street

A break in a 12-inch water line at about 9 a.m. today caused a sudden drop in water pressure throughout Greenville and smashed up a brick street.

The break occurred in a line right in front of the Greenville Municipal Authority office at 44 Clinton St., Greenville, said Maria Kerekes, water authority secretary.

Water was flowing up through Clinton Street, but at about 9:30 a.m. the water flow was shut off, Mrs. Kerekes said. The water flow tore up the brick street, she said.

Greenville firefighters were called to assist water authority crews.

It was not immediately known what caused the break or when water service would be restored.
