Today's obituaries James J. Kent Warren (Ohio) Consolidated retiree was in Marines James J. Kent of 7886 Service Ave., Masury, died at 10:12 a.m. Monday (1-21-02) at home. He was 62. Mr. Kent was born in Rimersburg, Pa., on April 6, 1939, a son of William and Avonell (McKee) Kent. James was a private first class in the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Kent was a transportation dispatcher for Warren (Ohio) Consolidated. He retired in 1989 after 30-plus years. He attended Masury United Methodist Church. In his spare time, James enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and cheering on Jeff Gordon in NASCAR. Survivors include: his mother, Masury; his wife, Janice J. (Yakell) Kent, whom he married Sept. 12, 1964; a son, James W. Kent and his wife, Althea, Hiram Township, Ohio; a daughter, Jacqueline Hennessy and her husband, James, Cortland; and three grandchildren, Lauren Hennessy, Connor Hennessy and Sarah Kent. He was preceded in death by his father; and a sister, Lois. Memorial contributions may be made to the Physician's Dialysis Center, 2425 Garden Way Drive, Hermitage 16148.
KENT Mary Lou Augustine Walsh Packard retiree was volunteer, worked at Greenville business A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday for Mary Lou Augustine Walsh, Hempfield Township, formerly of 7324 Huckleberry Road, Adamsville. She died Sunday afternoon, Jan. 20, 2002, in White-Cliff Nursing Home, Hempfield Township. She was 72. Mrs. Walsh was born Jan. 8, 1930, in Greenville to Felix Augustine and Philameno Chizilenna Augustine. She attended the former Penn High School in Greenville and was employed for 32 years at Delphi Packard Electric Systems in Warren, Ohio, retiring as a forklift operator. After her retirement from Packard, Mrs. Walsh worked as a sales representative with her son, John P. Wolford, at Route 18 Truck & Auto Sales in Greenville. She was a member of St. Michael's Church in Greenville, where she was a former Confraternity of Christian Doctrine teacher. Mrs. Walsh was also active as a volunteer for many other area churches. She was an artist of oil paintings and enjoyed being around race horses. Mrs. Walsh also enjoyed spending time with her family. Surviving besides her son, John, and his wife, Debra, are: her brother, Amos Augustine; and her husband, Carmello Castiglione, all Greenville; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Walsh was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Robert T. Wolford; five brothers, Frank, Albert, John, Gabriel and Angelo Augustine; three sisters, Rose Mogle, Matilda Doddo and Frances Savario; and one granddaughter, Shelley Wolford. Mildred 'Millie' B. Pears Retired HHS cafeteria supervisor was avid bowler A funeral service will be held Thursday for Mildred "Millie" B. Pears of 5673 Virginia Road in Hermitage. She passed away at 7:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after an extended illness. She was 82. Born Feb. 20, 1919, in Hermitage, Mrs. Pears was a daughter of the late Taylor W. and Orpha Spear Laird. A lifelong resident of Hermitage, she was a 1936 alumna of Hickory High School and retired in 1978 from Hermitage School District, where she was a cafeteria supervisor for more than 20 years. Mrs. Pears was a lifelong member of New Virginia United Methodist Church in Hermitage. An avid bowler, she belonged to a number of leagues. She was also a charter member of the New Virginia Old Home Days Association. Survivors include: her husband, Jack H. Pears, whom she married Aug. 7, 1940; one daughter, Beverly P. Greer; one son, Jack R. Pears; and one brother, Gilbert Laird and his wife Dorothy, all Hermitage; two grandchildren, Kevin A. Greer and his wife Connie, Luna Pier, Mich.; and Todd P. Greer and his wife Karen, Stockbridge, Ga.; four great-grandchildren, L. Ashley Greer, L. Austin Greer, Evan W. Greer and Carly R. Greer; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Pears was preceded in death by one sister, Esther Megown; and five brothers, Paul, Taylor, Edward, Ralph and Leonard Laird. PEARS Betty Louise Lyons Saylor Retired baker, caregiver in Grove City had 69 survivors Betty Louise Lyons Saylor, 515 S. Center St., Grove City, died at 1 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, in her residence after a six-year illness. She was 75. Mrs. Saylor was born Nov. 5, 1926, in Rimersburg, Clarion County, to Thomas Burton Lyons and Mary O'Dailey Lyons. She retired as a baker for the former Sam Puntureri Pizza and Bakery in Grove City. She was also a caregiver in the Grove City area. Mrs. Saylor was of the Protestant faith. Surviving are: four daughters, Barbara Bulfone, Hot Springs, Ark.; Mrs. Donald D. (Jean) Stull; and Mrs. Lee E. (Cindy) Johnson, both Grove City; and Mrs. Donald R. (Debbie) Adams, Mercer; five sons, Thomas R. Saylor and his wife Marsha, Harrisville; John Richard Saylor and his wife Cathy, Richmond, Va.; Rod R. Saylor and his wife Kathy; Jerry A. Saylor and his wife Catherine; and Vern Saylor Jr. and his wife Lori, all Grove City; one sister, Bernice, Illinois; 28 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Saylor was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Verna Parker and Edna Eisenhauth; and six brothers, Frank, Tom, Jeff, Jim, Walt and William Lyons.
SAYLOR Thomas N. Thomas Thomas N. Thomas, 410 Pierce Ave., Sharpsville, died at 1:34 p.m. Monday (1-21-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System from complications of leukemia. He was 59. Obituary information was incomplete.
THOMAS Jane Everall Yeager Retired Hermitage teacher served in Sharpsville church A memorial service will be held Thursday for Jane E. Yeager, formerly of Sharpsville and Green Valley, Ariz. She died at 7 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, in her daughter's home at 1242 Boyer Road, Erie 16511, after an extended illness. She was 80. Mrs. Yeager was born Aug. 1, 1921, in Mercer County to the late Carl C. and Jenny Raymond Everall. She graduated from the former Stoneboro High School and then received her degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1944. Mrs. Yeager married the late J. Lewis Yeager on Aug. 18, 1945. She taught home economics in Hermitage School District until her retirement in 1980. She was a lifelong member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 242 in Sharon; and was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Sharpsville, where she sang in the choir and applied her homemaking talents to adult ministries. Mrs. Yeager did the same at Green Valley Baptist Church after relocating with her husband in 1983. Hospitality to family and friends remained her joy throughout life. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Yeager was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Y. Evans. She is survived by: a sister, Mary Brennan, Hermitage; a daughter, Luanne Y. Salaga, Erie; a son, Max E. Yeager, Boulder, Colo.; two grandsons; and one great-grandson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 148 E. Shenango St.,, Sharpsville 16150; or Visiting Nurses Association Hospice of Erie, 1305 Peach St., Erie 16501.
YEAGER Bonita M. Robinson Struble Lackawannock Twp. woman was 4-H leader, hobbyist Bonita M. Robinson Struble, 745 Bend Road, Lackwannock Township, died at 2 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, in her residence. She was 80. Mrs. Struble was born April 23, 1921, in Youngstown to Robert and Bronta Arner Robinson. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Grange Association; and Lebanon Presbyterian Church in Lackwannock Township. Mrs. Struble was a 4-H leader for 20 years and loved oil painting and ceramics. Her husband, Edward Struble, died July 2, 1983. Surviving are: two sisters, Roberta Miller, Transfer; and Peggy Myers, Greenville; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Mrs. Struble was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, William and Robert Robinson. STRUBLE Frank Thomas Rodgers Retired millwright machinist had sister living in Volant YORK, Pa. -- Frank Thomas Rodgers, 1920 Trolley Road, York, formerly of Wilson, N.Y., and the village of North Liberty, died Friday (1-18-02) in York Hospital. He was 76. He was born Dec. 21, 1925, in Plain Grove to Charles Noble and Violet Mildred Buxton Rodgers. Before retiring in 1986, Mr. Rodgers was employed by the New York State Power Authority for more than 25 years as a millwright machinist. He was a member of North Ridge United Methodist Church, Lockport, N.Y. An avid sportsman, Mr. Rodgers was a member of the Wilson Conservation Club, The Franklin Conservation Club and The Pioneer Sportsman Club. Surviving are: his wife at home, Helen Mae Means Rodgers, whom he married April 17, 1948; four children, Joyce Lepore and her husband Benjamin, Gail Burgen, and Frank Thomas Rodgers Jr. and his wife Patricia, all of York; and Charles L. Rodgers and his wife Paula, Norfolk, Va.; a sister, Emma Rogers, Volant; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harry and Meryl Rodgers; and a sister, Marilyn Stevenson.
RODGERS Clara Wallace GCC cafeteria retiree had stepdaughter, brother here YORK, Pa. -- Clara Wallace of York, died Monday morning (1-21-02) in York Medical Center. She was 87. Mrs. Wallace was born in Butler on April 16, 1914, to Domenico and Louisa Duranti Zenobi. She retired from Grove City College as a cafeteria worker for 22 years. Mrs. Wallace was a former member of Church of the Beloved Disciple in Grove City; and a member of St. Rose of Lima in York; and AARP, a retired person's organization. She is survived by: a son, John Morrow of Florida; a daughter, Diana Malingowski of York; a stepdaughter, Sheila McKay of Grove City; two sisters, Virginia Forlini of Denora, Pa.; and Helen Fozard of Pittsburgh; a brother, John Zenobi of Grove City; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Wallace was preceded in death by her parents; her second husband, William Wallace, died in 1988; her first husband, Austin L. Morrow, who died in 1979; a sister, Anna Dennis; and two brothers, Ernest and Anthony.
