Woman charged in fatal wreck

A car crash Saturday in Masury claimed the life of one Hermitage woman and resulted in vehicular homicide charges against another, Ohio State Patrol said.

Yvonne Edwards, 71, of 5070 Cassidy Road, Hermitage, died at 5:50 a.m. Sunday in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, of injuries she suffered in a two-car crash in the 1200 block of Standard Avenue, police said.

Mrs. Edwards was a passenger in a car driven by a car driven by Margaret Snyder, 72, of Stevenson Road, Masury, police said.

Catherine Settlemire, 41, of 630 Chesapeake Court, Hermitage, was arraigned this morning in Eastern District Court on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and aggravated vehicular assault, police said.

Police said Ms. Settlemire's car was headed east on Standard Avenue at 7:18 p.m. when it crossed over the center line and crashed into Ms. Snyder's westbound car. Brookfield fire department was called to the scene to put out a fire in one of the cars and free the victims.

All three women were wearing their seatbelts, police said.

Ms. Snyder is in fair condition at the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Ms. Settlemire was released on $5,000 bond, a court official said.
