BROOKFIELD

Injured motorist improves; other driver faces charges

A Masury woman was upgraded from fair to satisfactory condition this morning in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after a two-car crash Saturday that claimed the life of the passenger in her car, a hospital spokesperson said.

Margaret "Peggy" Snyder, 72, of Stevenson Road, was hurt and her passenger, Yvonne Edwards, 71, of 5070 Cassidy Road, Hermitage, died after their westbound car was hit on Standard Avenue in Brookfield, police said.

The Snyder car was hit by an eastbound car, driven by Catherine Settlemire, 41, of 630 Chesapeake Court, Hermitage, police said, adding the Settlemire car crossed the center line.

Mrs. Edwards died Sunday morning in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, police said.

Meanwhile, Ms. Settlemire was charged Monday with aggravated vehicular homicide and aggravated vehicular assault by Ohio State Highway Patrol in Eastern District Court and was released on $5,000 bond, a court official said.

The charges were aggravated because alcohol contributed to the crash, Ohio Highway Patrol said. Police said Ms. Settlemire submitted to a breath test; her blood-alcohol level was 0.144. The legal limit in Ohio is 0.10.

Her preliminary hearing was set for Feb. 21. If found guilty of all charges, Ms. Settlemire could face 3 to 13 years in prison, a $25,000 fine and permanent revocation of her driver's license, according to the Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office.
