Senior Center announces activities for February

Sandy Lake Senior Community Center, which meets in McQuiston Center by the Park, 29 Railroad St., has announced its February activities.

Tax-aide/Tax Counseling for the Elderly volunteers will prepare income tax returns from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 6 and 20 and March 6. Property-tax, rent-rebate and PACE forms, as well as a new bus trip list for 2002, are available at the center.

The center is planning a monthly trip to McKean's, Farrell's and Dollar General stores. Sign up at the registration table for the Feb. 7 "browse and shop" trip. The cost is 50 cents per stop.

A welcome party will be held at 11:20 a.m. Feb. 25 for the granddaughter of Sam Plummer, the center's maintenance/janitorial worker. Plans for a gift will be announced.

Other activities include:

  • Friday -- 11:15 a.m., Groundhog Day.

  • Monday -- 11:20 a.m., video on osteoporosis.

  • Tuesday -- 11:20 a.m., recipe swap.

  • Next Wednesday -- 11 a.m., "Documentation and Identification at the World Trade Center" by funeral director Robert Snyder.

  • Feb. 7 -- 11:20 a.m., silly ideas.

  • Feb. 8 -- 11 a.m., making paper from recycled paper by Girl Scout Heather Benek.

  • Feb. 11 -- 11:20 a.m., "Wheel of Fortune," and 1 p.m., art club and registration for classes.

  • Feb. 12 -- 11 a.m., blood pressure screenings by Life Force Ambulance Service personnel, and 11:20 a.m., table games.

  • Feb. 13 -- 11:20 a.m., Tutti-Frutti bingo.

  • Feb. 14 -- 9 a.m., program committee meeting; 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Valentine's Day celebration with music by Johnny Oakes; and 11:30 a.m., crowning of king and queen. Lunch donation: $3.50.

  • Feb. 12 -- 11:15 a.m., Cherry Trivia Day.

  • Feb. 18 -- Center closed for Presidents Day.

  • Feb. 19 -- 11:20 a.m., poetry day.

  • Feb. 20 -- 11:20 a.m., skit day.

  • Feb. 21 -- 11:15 a.m., birthday and anniversary party with Jean Greenlee. Lunch donation is $2.

  • Feb. 22 -- 9 a.m., executive committee meeting, and 11:20 a.m., family table feud.

  • Feb. 26 -- 11:20 a.m., exercises for all.

  • Feb. 27 -- 11:20 a.m., "Old Friends" music video.

  • Feb. 28 -- 11:15 a.m., horse racing.

    Daily activities:

  • Mondays -- 9 a.m., line dancing; 10:15 a.m., Seniorcise; 1 p.m., bridge.

  • Tuesdays -- 9 a.m., shuffleboard.

  • Wednesdays -- 9 a.m., line dancing; 10:15 a.m., Seniorcise; 1 p.m., Tai Chi.

  • Fridays -- 10:15 a.m. Seniorcise. Activity set for 10 a.m. Feb. 8.

    A St. Patrick's Day dinner dance will be held March 15.

    Art classes have been scheduled, each running for six consecutive weeks. They are:

  • Watercolor classes, beginning March 20.

  • Bob Ross painting classes, beginning March 4.

  • Traditional Oils, beginning April 15.

    Lunch is available daily at noon with two-day advance reservation.
