FARRELL

Mrs. Pasci gets released early

A Farrell woman has been released from prison after serving ten and a half months of her one-year and one-day term for embezzling $589,000 from the Farrell branch of a National City Bank over an eight-year period.

According to a spokesperson at Alderson Federal Prison Camp in West Virginia, Odette Pasci was released Friday.

Mrs. Pasci, 333 Judy Lynn Drive, was sentenced Feb. 2, 2001, by U.S. Judge Donetta W. Ambrose after pleading guilty to embezzlement from the bank where she was branch manager.

Because Judge Ambrose sentenced her to one day beyond a year, Mrs. Pasci became eligible for early release under the Federal Bureau of Prisons' "Good Time" rules.

Under those rules, prisoners sentenced beyond a year can be eligible for early release based on good behavior after serving 85 percent of their sentences, which in the case of Mrs. Pasci was about 10 and a half months.

Judge Ambrose said she agreed with Mrs. Pacsi's claims that she had a "significantly reduced" mental capacity.

According to testimony at her sentencing hearing last year by Dr. Albert Scott, a Hermitage psychologist, Mrs. Pacsi suffered from severe mental disorders, including bi-polar, obsessive compulsive, impulse control, borderline personality and dependent personality disorders.

She also was sentenced to five years probation after her release from prison and ordered to pay back the money she stole.

As part of the payback, at least 15 percent of any money Mrs. Pasci earned in prison and 10 percent of any gross monthly wages after her release must go toward restitution.

She and her husband, Eugene, recently started a catering business, Cookies, Catering & Creations, according to a legal notice that ran in the Dec. 5 Herald.

Her husband is a former mayor of Farrell, serving from 1978 to 2000.
