Former school janitor faces sex assault trial

The trial for a Brookfield man police say began sexually assaulting a woman when she was 12 begins Monday in the Trumbull County Court of Common Pleas before Judge John M. Stuard.

Robert Gibson, 61, of North Albright McKay Road, was charged by Brookfield police last February after a 19-year old woman with claimed he sexually assaulted for years.

Police said the first rape charge stems from an October 1994 incident; the latest in June 2000.

Gibson is facing multiple rape, sexual battery and corruption of a minor charges and could face up to 80 years in prison if he's convicted of all the charges against him, the Trumbull County prosecutor's office said.

Gibson was a former maintenance supervisor with the Brookfield Local School District before retiring in August 1991.

His son, Robert L. Gibson, III, 38, of 467 S. Albright McKay Road, was charged with criminal mischief and criminal trespass after he allegedly sprayed semen from a bottle on women between July and November at stores in and around the Eastwood Mall shopping complex.

The younger Gibson has pretrial hearings in Girard, Warren and Niles municipal courts within the next five weeks regarding those charges.
