WEST SALEM TOWNSHIP

Mom jailed for using credit card stolen from caseworker

A West Salem Township mother will spend at least a month in Mercer County Jail and pay $4,568 in restitution for racking up charges on her children's wrap-around caseworker's credit card.

Frances Margaret Bone, 112 Orangeville Road, was sentenced Friday to 1 month to 2 1/2 years in Mercer County Jail. Mercer County Common Pleas Court Judge Francis J. Fornelli also ordered her to perform 100 hours of community service and attend parenting classes when she is paroled.

Greenville-West Salem Township police charged Ms. Bone with 30 counts each of theft, receiving stolen property, forgery, and access device fraud. She pleaded guilty to a consolidated charge of access device fraud.

In tears, Ms. Bone told the judge she made the purchases for her two children, adding "What I did was wrong."

Fornelli said she used the stolen credit card more than 30 times. It seemed as if she wanted to get caught, he said. "This was an incredibly stupid and foolish set of criminal acts," Fornelli told Ms. Bone. "I call into question your thought process."

Upon reviewing the restitution total, the judge said, "It's no wonder Master Charge interest rates are so high."
