Groups lobby for cut of CDBG

Commissioners will have to decide

A dozen social service agencies asked Hermitage commissioners Tuesday for a slice of a $41,000 Community Development Block Grant pie.
The money is the public services portion of about $514,168 in federal CDBG money the city is expected to get from the state.
The requests of the agencies totaled about $75,000. Commissioners will decide Feb. 22 how to divide the money.
The city's other plans for the block grant are:
$92,550 for general administration and auditing.
$180,000 for housing rehabilitation for 12 low- to moderate-income households.
$152,618 will be set aside for a housing project for low- to moderate-income seniors.
$48,000 for public facilities and improvements requested by Mercer County Agency on Aging for the Shenango Valley Center for Aging and Geriatric Health on North Buhl Farm Drive.
These agencies have requested public service money:
AW/ARE Inc., the county's domestic violence and rape crisis agency -- $6,000.
Children's Center of Mercer County -- $20,000.
City of Hermitage Parks & Recreation -- $12,000.
Mercer County Community Action Agency -- $2,781.
Community Counseling Center -- $10,000.
Community Food Warehouse of the Shenango Valley -- $2,500.
Mercer County Housing Coalition -- $2,500.
Prince of Peace Center in Farrell -- $10,000.
Wheels to Work -- $1,000.
Mercer County Regional Council of Governments -- $5,000.
Shenango Valley YMCA -- $2,500.
Southwest Gardens Economic Development Corp., Farrell -- $5,500.
