SHARPSVILLE

Director to resign; his wife eyes soccer coach job

Sharpsville Area School Board Director Dr. Henry VanZanten submitted his resignation this week, saying he wanted to avoid any potential conflicts of interest if his wife secures a job with the district.

School directors read VanZanten's letter Monday and will vote on it at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the high school library.

VanZanten said his wife plans to apply for the head soccer coach position and he didn't want any conflicts of interest.

"It's not so much an interest of time conflicts but potential business conflicts," VanZanten said.

VanZanten has been on the board for about eight years. He said he has thought about resigning for several months.

VanZanten is the second school director to quit in six months.

Former board Vice President Robert Donatelli resigned in September after 12 years on the board. He was seeking re-election at the time.
