GREENVILLE AREA

2 of 3 plead guilty to robbing store

The Herald

Two men could face at least 5 years in a state prison after admitting to robbing a Greenville convenience store.

James Ritts, 20, and Matthew Shacklock, 21, both of 32 Coal Bank Road, West Salem Township, both pleaded guilty to robbery Monday before Mercer County Common Pleas Court Judge Francis J. Fornelli.

Police said Ritts and Shacklock, along with Matthew Rossi, 21, of 101 Carrier Road, Pymatuning Township, wore ski masks and carried pellet guns when they robbed the Last Minit Mart convenience store, 62 W. Main St., on Oct. 11.

The clerk believed the pellet guns to be handguns, police said. The trio forced the clerk to open the cash register and left the store, taking $58 and a radio scanner, a probable cause affidavit said.

Police said they arrested the three men after a 1 1/2-hour foot chase.

Prosecutors are applying the 5-year minimum mandatory sentence for Ritts and Shacklock, requiring the judge to sentence them to at least 5 to 10 years in prison, said Mercer County Assistant District Attorney Timothy Bonner. The mandatory minimum sentence can be sought when a gun or a replica of a gun is used in a crime, he said.

Rossi's case was postponed. All three are being held in Mercer County Jail after failing to post $50,000 bond.
