Crash leaves neighborhood without power

East State Street in Sharon was blocked off for most of Sunday night after someone hit a power pole and drove off, police said.

A vehicle traveling east on State Street near South Myers Avenue went off the right side of the road at 7:50 p.m. and hit a telephone pole, police said. The pole was sheared, sending sparks flying, police said.

The motorist drove off, but police said they have a suspect.

Power was knocked out to about five nearby Penn Power customers, according to area Manager Randal J. Coleman. Power was restored early this morning, he said.

State Street had to be blocked off so Penn Power crews could replace the pole, which included hand-digging a new hole, Coleman said. He said work on the new pole won't be finished for a while.
