Audrey L. Cook Audrey L. Cook, 740 Fredonia Road, Perry Township, died early Sunday morning (2-17-02) in UPMC Horizon, Greenville. She was 59. Obituary information was incomplete.
COOK Beatrice E. Gill Beatrice E. Gill, 2308 Mercer-West Middlesex Road, West Middlesex, died at 3:35 p.m. Sunday (2-17-02) in Montefiore Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was 79. Obituary information was incomplete.
GILL Milo W. Horam Centenarian retired from Cooper Energy Milo W. Horam, 1382 S. Center St. Extension, Grove City, where he lived for 58 years, died Saturday afternoon, Feb. 16, 2002, in United Community Hospital, Pine Township. He was 100. Mr. Horam was born Jan. 9, 1902, in Foxburg, Pa., to William Jacob and Annie C. Faust Horam. A graduate of Detroit Automotive College, he retired after 43 years from Cooper Energy Services Reciprocating Products, Grove City. Mr. Horam was a member since Feb. 10, 1928, of East Main Presbyterian Church in Grove City. He also belonged to Vagabonds and Lamplighters; Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 1579, Grove City; and was a member and past master of Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 603, also Grove City. His wife, the former Florence E. Garner, whom he married Nov. 6, 1923, died May 15, 1999. Surviving are: three children, Evelyn L. Hoover, Oberlin, Ohio; W. Franklin Horam, Mercer; and Judith Lynne Horam, Grove City; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, Mr. Horam was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Evalyn Fowler; a brother, Richard W. Horam; and a great-grandson, Rico Stroma. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
HORAM Daniel Bocko Dorothy F. Bocko Hermitage man was Marine, retired from Polk Center; wife was hospital volunteer, employment office retiree A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday for Daniel and Dorothy F. Bocko of 1645 Orangeville Road, Hermitage. He passed away unexpectedly at 10:53 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, after being stricken at home. He was 79. His wife passed away peacefully, surrounded by her husband and family at 2:15 p.m. Saturday in the intensive care unit of UPMC Horizon, Farrell. She was 75. Mr. Bocko was born Oct. 9, 1922, in Youngstown, a son of Daniel and Zophia Chalupka Bocko. He moved to Sharon at the age of two and graduated from Sharon High School. Mr. Bocko was also a Youngstown State University alumnus, having received his bachelor's degree in accounting. Following a career in the public and private sectors, he retired in 1987 as an institutional collections officer for Polk Center. He was a lifelong member of Sts. Peter and Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sharon. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Mr. Bocko served in the Central Pacific during World War II. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he married the former Dorothy F. Dobrosky on Sept. 10, 1949. They met while working together at the Pennsylvania State Employment Service in Sharon. Mrs. Bocko was born April 6, 1926, in Slickville, Pa., to Joseph Dobrosky and Anna Markin Dobrosky. Dorothy and her family moved to what is now Hermitage in 1926. She graduated from Sharon High School. Mrs. Bocko retired in 1988 after 37½ years from Pennsylvania State Employment Service in Sharon. She was a 15-year active volunteer with Sharon Regional Health System's Hospice Home Care Program in Hermitage. She was a lifelong member of Church of the Sacred Heart in Sharon. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she married Daniel Bocko on Sept. 10, 1949. Surviving Mr. and Mrs. Bocko are: two daughters, Anna Mary Hoovler, wife of Dr. Dennis W. Hoovler, Hermitage; and Kathryn Bocko James, wife of Daniel E. James, Greenville; one son, Daniel R. Bocko and his wife Anne, Buffalo, Minn.; and two grandchildren, Lindsay Rebecca Bocko and Daniel Eric Bocko. Mr. Bocko also leaves: a sister, Mrs. Donald (Sophia) Mihm, Sharpsville; and two brothers and their spouses, Michael Bocko and his wife Emily, Littleton, Colo.; and Edward Bocko and his wife Nana, Palmyra, Va. In addition, Mrs. Bocko leaves three sisters, Sophie O'Brien, Masury; Jennie Dominski, Hermitage; and Anne Richards, Ormond Beach, Fla. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; and a sister, Anna Bocko. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Walter and Rudolph Dobrosky; and two sisters, Mildred Bodnar and Nellie Husenita. Memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Sacred Heart, 40 S. Irvine Ave.; or Sts. Peter and Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 699 Stambaugh Ave., Sharon 16146.
BOCKO Rita M. Coller Golf league president was retired Hubbard Twp. clerk Rita M. Coller, 2063 Thomas Road SE, Hubbard, passed away Saturday evening (2-16-02) in Forum Health Northside Medical Center in Youngstown. She was 64. Mrs. Coller was born July 6, 1937, in Sharpsville, a daughter of Henry A. and Etta Mae Patton Gilliland. A 1955 graduate of Brookfield High School, she moved to Hubbard in 1959. Mrs. Coller served as Hubbard Township clerk for 16 years, retiring in 2000. She was president of Tuesday Night Ladies League at Donnybrook Golf Course; and a member of Rebekah Lodge 758; and Ladies Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3767, both Hubbard. Mrs. Coller also belonged to First Baptist Church in Hubbard and was a former member of Hubbard Football Moms; American Business Women's Association; and Ohio Township Association. She leaves: her husband, Fred D. Coller Sr., whom she married Feb. 14, 1959, Sharon; two sons, Fred D. Coller Jr., Valdosta, Ga.; and Robert and his wife Debbie Coller, Long Beach, Calif.; a grandson, Fred D. "Trey" Coller; three brothers, Wade Gilliland and Richard Gilliland, both Brookfield; and Patten M. Gilliland, Hubbard; two sisters, Annabell Pryor and Shirley Filipovich, Hermitage; and 36 nieces and nephews. Three brothers, John "Hank" Gilliland, Mike Gilliland and Kenny Gilliland; five sisters, Thelma Grandy, Katherine Lambert, Edith Unrue, Margaret McCallen and Pearl Tomek; and her parents are deceased.
COLLER Mary Jane McElree Mary Jane McElree, 154 Plum St., Greenville, died at 1:23 a.m. today (2-18-02) in UPMC Horizon, Greenville. She was 75. Obituary information was incomplete.
McELREE Margaret H. Hanlon Notre Dame member retired from former Farrell hospital A funeral service will be held Tuesday for Margaret H. Hanlon, East Lackawannock Township, formerly of Hermitage. She died at 1 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, in Countryside Convalescent Home, East Lackawannock Township, of natural causes following a brief illness. She was 84. Mrs. Hanlon was born March 28, 1917, in Sharpsville to James Bresnahan and Anna Bender Bresnahan. She was a high school graduate of Sharpsville schools in the 1930s and retired from the former Shenango Valley Osteopathic Hospital in Farrell, where she worked as a technician. Mrs. Hanlon was a lifelong member of Church of Notre Dame in Hermitage. Her husband, William B. Hanlon, whom she married June 7, 1941, died Dec. 1, 1983. Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. John (Nancy A.) Rokita, St. Charles, Mo.; two sisters, Mary Webber, Countryside Convalescent Home, East Lackawannock Township; and Jane Thomas, Hermitage; two brothers, William Bresnahan, Sharpsville; and Robert Bresnahan, Hubbard; three grandchildren, Amy, Becky and John; and four great-grandsons. Besides her husband, Mrs. Hanlon was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Daniel, James and Tom Bresnahan.
HANLON Harry Griffiths Sr. Sharon Steel retiree was member of Grace Chapel A funeral service will be held Wednesday for Harry Griffiths Sr., 504 State Line Road, Masury. He died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, of natural causes in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 80. Mr. Griffiths was born Oct. 28, 1921, in Barton, Ohio, to Thomas J. Griffiths and Ada Bowman Griffiths. He retired in 1982 after 35 years from the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant, where he was a car blocker. A Navy veteran, Mr. Griffiths served during World War II. As a member of Grace Chapel Community Church in Sharon, he was an avid churchgoer and loved reading his Bible. Mr. Griffiths also enjoyed gardening, and playing his guitar, harmonica and juice harp. Surviving are: his wife of 56 years, the former Eleanor L. Locke, whom he married July 23, 1946, at home; three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Barbara L.) Beighley, Masury; Mrs. Steven (Eleanor L.) Smith, Campbell, Ohio; and Mrs. Jesse (Vivian Lee) Richards, Greenville; two sons, Harry Griffiths Jr. and his wife Rose Griffiths, Hadley; and John T. and his wife Bonnie Griffiths, Cambridge, Md.; a sister, Mrs. Charles (Beverly) Fennell, West Middlesex; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Mr. Griffiths was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Gail Iona Carte; a grandson, William Carte; two brothers, Thomas and Charles Griffiths; and two sisters, Margaret Tarbutton and Virginia Zamborie.
GRIFFITHS Carl G. Bridenbaugh Carl G. Bridenbaugh, 182 S. Berry Road, West Salem Township, died at 3:02 p.m. Sunday (2-17-02) in the emergency room of UPMC Horizon, Greenville. He was 85. Obituary information was incomplete.
