LAWRENCE COUNTY

Teen accused of trying to have father killed

The Associated Press

A 16-year-old was in custody Friday on charges he tried to have his father killed, authorities said.

Police arrested the teen-ager, whom officials would not identify, on Friday, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported on its Web site.

Neshannock school officials called police when they heard students discussing the teen-ager's alleged plot to hire someone to commit the murder, Lawrence County District Attorney Matthew T. Mangino said.

The teen-ager allegedly arranged the murder over a two-week period and took steps toward committing the crime, Mangino said. He declined to give more details.

The teen-ager is charged as a juvenile with criminal solicitation to commit homicide and was in a juvenile detention hall, Mangino said.

Officials do not plan to charge anyone else with a crime and Mangino did not plan to pursue adult charges against the teen, he said.
