What black history means, part 2

Ten Farrell and Sharon juniors and seniors have been declared winners of a Black History Month essay contest.

The students wrote on the theme: "What black history means to me."

The Herald is publishing the winning entries from Farrell Area High School today.

Sharon winners were published Tuesday.

Each of the winners received $100 in the Gateway Health Plan of Pittsburgh-sponsored contest.

Farrell winners are: seniors Joni Gargano and Danielle Wells and juniors Jamie Myers, Lindsey Andrusky and Holly McFarland.

Sharon winners are: seniors Renee Howell, Matthew Slye and Andrew J. Whelen and juniors Noel Mone't King and Michelle Paulsen.

Judges were Farrell Mayor William Morocco; Sharon Mayor Dave Ryan; Angela Lenzi, site manager of Sharon's Careerlink; Cheryl King, vice president of Shenango Valley Urban League, Inc.; and Stephanie Marugg, assistant resident services coordinator of Mercer County Housing Authority.
