School board OKs bids, bond for renovations

The Lakeview Area School District Board of Directors awarded bids last week for renovations and construction at the middle and high schools and authorized borrowing more than $13 million to pay for the work.

The project. totaling approximately $14,700,000 is nearly $4 million under the originally projected cost of $18 million.

The district opted to eliminate several projects from the original proposal.

Following the awarded bids, the district board voted to accept the bids and authorized a bond issue to obtain $13,500,000 of the funds needed to pay for the project.

Contracts were awarded to:

  • Marisco Corporation for general construction in the amount of $5,356,402.

  • Guy's Mechanical Systems for HVACconstruction in the amount of $2,343,445.

  • Shipley Plumbing for plumbing construction in the amount of $678,800.

  • Penn Ohio Electrical Company for electrical construction in the amount of $2,409,910.

  • Commercial Appliance Contracts, Inc. for food service equipment in the amount of $234,758.

  • Maffei Stroyer Furnishings for educational equipment in the amount of $368,200.

  • Allegheny Educational Systems for technology equipment in the amount of $75,983.

  • Morocco Electric, Inc. for Tele Data cabling construction in the amount of $225,790.

    The board also approved a resolution for owner controlled insurance that will ensure there is worker's compensation insurance for all workers provided by the employers of various companies working on the project.
