County judges pick Benham for open school board seat

Sadie R. Benham, 71, of 1008 Emerson Ave., Farrell, has been picked by Mercer County Common Pleas Court judges to fill a vacant position on the Farrell Area School Board, Court Administrator Peter A. Morin said this morning.

The judges noted Ms. Benham's previous school board experience, Morin said. She is a retired early childhood education teacher in Compton, Calif., and served on the Santa Ana, Calif., school board, including a term as president.

The judges interviewed four candidates Thursday, the others being Leslie Hite, Brian K. Sanders Sr. and Michael Zaborowski. All candidates are from Farrell.

The seat was opened by the Jan. 1 death of Rose Marie Branca.

The judges were asked to appoint someone to the board after the school directors dead-locked on two candidates, Mrs. Benham and Brenda Branca of Farrell, Mrs. Branca's daughter.
